Happy Saturday!
Enough about me. Today is all about you. Today is your day to write.
Now, this being our very first Sober Letters Writing Prompt, let me first explain how this is going to work.
1. TOPIC: I will give you a question to answer. A topic to ponder. Something worth thinking about in relation to my Sober Letters subject of the week.
2. Take the question I’m about to pose to you and write an answer in letter form.
3. You can write this letter to your own parents. A sibling. A friend. Child. Even yourself. Try your best to write it as if you are really speaking to that person.
4. Do with this letter what you please. It does not ever need to be shared. It can be erased immediately. It can be read aloud to a loved one. It can be read aloud to yourself in the mirror. It can also be tucked away someplace safe for a day when you’re ready to share it.
5. Again. This is about YOU. Do what feels right.
This week’s writing prompt is sticking to the theme of funerals. My question to you is…
How do you want your loved ones to mourn you when you are gone? Do you want a traditional funeral? A celebration of life? Or something in between?
With this prompt, I encourage you to think outside of the box (no pun intended) and ponder the bigger picture. Is the most important aspect to you the literal service? Or is it more about how your loved ones grieve?
Once you are finished, please take a moment to take inventory of the experience. Was this a challenging topic for you? Does it hit too close to home? Had you never thought about it before? Is it too scary to think about death
? Or are you able to release yourself a bit from the fear of death by talking about it? There are no right or wrong answers. Only your own experience. Feel free to write about the process as well.
I know it’s a serious topic for our first week, but I hope you enjoy the experience of self-discovery.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all from me.
We can be on this journey together as little or as much as you’d like.
Happy Writing!
